Transliteration

Apokritheis de ho angelos eipen tais gynaixin; mē phobeisthe hymeis, oida gar hoti Iēsoun ton estaurōmenon zēteite;

Literal

Answering moreover the angel said to the women, not Fear you; I know indeed that Jesus, the [One] having been crucified, seek.

Paraphrase

The angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid! I know you’re looking for Jesus, who was crucified.”

 

Matt 28:6

He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε, ἠγέρθη γὰρ καθὼς εἶπεν· δεῦτε ἴδετε τὸν τόπον ὅπου ἔκειτο.

Transliteration

Literal

Not He is here, he is risen indeed, as he said. Come, see the place where he was lying.

Paraphrase

He’s not here—he has risen from the dead—just as he promised! Come! See where his body laid.

 

Matt 28:7

And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.

Transliteration

Literal

And quickly having gone, say the disciples of him, that He is risen from the dead; and behold, he goes before you into Galilee; there him you will see. Behold, I have told you.

Paraphrase

Hurry, and tell his disciples he’s risen from the dead and has gone ahead of them into Galilee, where they’ll be able to see him. Don’t forget to tell them this message!

 

Matt 28:8

And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.

Literal

And having gone out quickly from the tomb, with fear and joy great, they ran to tell the disciples of him,

Paraphrase

As they hastily left the tomb with fear and great joy, and were rushing to tell the disciples what the angel instructed;

 

Matt 28:9

And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

Paraphrase

Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” They then prostrated themselves before him and held on to his feet, and worshiped him.

Literal

Said therefore to him the other disciplines, We have seen the Lord. Moreover he said to them, if not I see in the hands of him the mark of the nails, and put the finger of me into the mark of the nails, and put of me the hands into the side of him, no not will I believe.

Paraphrase

The other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “Unless I see the nail holes in his hands and put my finger into them, and feel the gash in his side, I won’t believe.”

 

John 20:26

And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

Literal

And after days eight again were inside the disciples of him, and Thomas with them. Come Jesus, the doors having been shut, and he stood in the midst, and said, Peace to you.

Paraphrase

Eight days later, while the disciples gathered together again (Thomas was with them this time); even though the doors were locked, Jesus suddenly appeared in their midst, and said, “May you have peace.”

 

John 20:27

Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

εἶτα λέγει τῷ Θωμᾷ· φέρε τὸν δάκτυλόν σου ὧδε καὶ ἴδε τὰς χεῖράς μου καὶ φέρε τὴν χεῖρά σου καὶ βάλε εἰς τὴν πλευράν μου, καὶ μὴ γίνου ἄπιστος ἀλλὰ πιστός.

Transliteration

Literal

Then he says to Thomas, Bring the finger of you here, and see the hands of me; and bring the hand of you, and put [it] into the side of me; and not be unbelieving, but believing.

Paraphrase

He then addressed Thomas, “Put your fingers here and feel the holes in my hands. Put your hand into the gash in my side. Stop doubting—believe!”

 

John 20:28

And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

ἀπεκρίθη Θωμᾶς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· ὁ κύριός μου καὶ ὁ θεός μου.

Transliteration

apekrithē Thōmas kai eipen autō; ho kyrios mou kai ho theos mou.

Literal

Answered Thomas and said to him, the Lord of me and the God of me!

Paraphrase

Thomas replied, “[You are] my Lord and my God!”

 

John 20:29

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Says to him Jesus, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed [are] those not having seen, yet having believed.

Paraphrase

Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe despite not seeing me.”

Acts 2:31

He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

προϊδὼν ἐλάλησεν περὶ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τοῦ Χριστοῦ ὅτι οὔτε ἐγκατελείφθη εἰς ᾅδην οὔτε ἡ σὰρξ αὐτοῦ εἶδεν διαφθοράν.

Transliteration

proidōn elalēsen peri tēs anastaseōs tou Christou hoti oute enkateleiphthē eis hadēn oute hē sarx autou eiden diaphthoran.

Literal

Having foreseen, he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he abandoned into Hades, not the flesh of him saw decay.

Paraphrase

David saw the future and spoke about the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not going to be abandoned in Hades, and his body wouldn’t experience decomposition.

 

Acts 2:32

This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

τοῦτον τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἀνέστησεν ὁ θεός, οὗ πάντες ἡμεῖς ἐσμεν μάρτυρες·

Transliteration

touton ton Iēsoun anestēsen ho theos, hou pantes hēmeis esmen martyres;

Literal

This Jesus has raised up God, whereof all we are witnesses.

Paraphrase

We are all witnesses that God raised Jesus from the dead.

Acts 2:31-32 David saw the future and spoke about the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not going to be abandoned in Hades, and his body wouldn’t experience decomposition. 32 We are all witnesses that God raised Jesus from the dead.

 

4)      Acts 10:40-41

Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

This One God raised up on the third day, and gave him manifest to become.

Paraphrase

God raised him from the dead on the third day and made him appear openly.

 

Acts 10:41

Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

Not to everyone, but to a group of witnesses who have been selected beforehand by God—to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

Paraphrase

Remember Jesus Christ, the descendant of David, was raised from the dead! This is the good news I am preaching!

 

6)      Revelation 1:18

I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
